About the Teachers

The teachers of the BLCU Online Classes have studied teaching Chinese to foreigners for at least 7 years. Due to BLCU’s expertise in teaching Chinese to foreigners, there is a large supply of high quality teachers who are able to teach, beginner level, and in different specialties. Some of the teachers and their experience are below:

Zhao

Ms Zhao Xuemei

Ms Zhao Xuemei studied Master,Curriculum and Teaching Theory at Beijing Language and Culture University. She has rich experience teaching at universities both home and abroad, including at Keimyung University in South Korea. She is good at teaching important academic items via multimedia techonologies. She has a patient and practical approach to teaching which is popular with students enabling them to learn in a systematic and interesting manner. She particularly stands out in terms of online Chinese teaching and many of her essays have been published on famous academic journals. She has also been on the interviewer panel for the overseas Chinese teacher selection committee held by Hanban (which is the Chinese National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.)

In addition to this, Ms Zhao has written the following textbooks:
1. Great Wall Chinese – Survival and Communication (volume 1-6 ), Beijing Language and Culture University Press
2. International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press
3. A Complete Handbook of Spoken Chinese,Beijing Language and Culture University Press
4. Daily Chinese (online), an online training course.

She has also led the following projects:
1. A Research on the Teaching Model of Great Wall Chinese ( A Ministry of Education Project)
2. Internet-based Chinese Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (A Ministry of Education Project)
3. Multimedia Dictionary of Chinese Characters ( A Project of Hanban)
4. A Research on Online Chinese Learning Mode (A Project of Chinese Adult Education Association)

Ms Zhao teaches Chinese Comprehension, Chinese Speaking, Chinese Reading and Chinese Listening Online classes.

Penny

Penny Wang

Penny received her Bachelor’s in Chinese Language and Literature from Communication University of China (CUC), and studied her Masters of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL) at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU).

Penny has more than four years’ Chinese teaching experience, including two years in Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). She joined Online Education College of BLCU in 2011, teaching elementary Chinese Comprehensive course and Intermediate Chinese course on campus and online. She is good at teaching elementary Chinese and is fully experienced in various types of lessons. She is also proficient in Chinese grammar and vocabulary teaching, with precise explanations and various drilling methods. One of her articles was published in Chinese Language and Culture Symposium by Japenese Hakuteisha Press.

Kelly

Kelly Liu

Kelly studied Bachelor’s of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL) at Xiangtan University, and the Masters in Applied Linguistics at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU).

Kelly has more than four years’ Chinese teaching experience, including two years in the College of Intensive Chinese Training in BLCU and PLA University of Foreign Languages. She joined Online Education College of BLCU in 2011 and has been earning herself rich experience in teaching various Chinese courses both online and on-campus. She does well in teaching beginners Comprehensive Chinese Courses, and teaches Chinese pronunciation vividly and accurately, she handles grammar teaching in a progressive way and her students learn Chinese while having fun. She forms her own special style of balancing of teaching beginners Chinese language skills and develops a systematic method of intermediate vocabulary teaching. She has been awarded Teacher of the Year by the college in recent two years.

Houston Zhang

Houston Zhang

Houston studied Bachelor of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL) at Beijing Language and Culture University, and then studied Masters of Education, Curriculum and Teaching Theory at BLCU.

Houston has rich experience in teaching Chinese, especially in overseas countries. He taught Chinese courses including Comprehensive Chinese, Chinese Listening & Speaking, Chinese Reading & Writing and Business Chinese, in the Chinese Economy and Trade major of Assumption University(Bangkok, Thailand) in 2009 and taught Chinese courses including Elementary Chinese Listening & Speaking and Elementary Chinese Character Writing in Confucius Institute at McMaster University, Hamilton(Ontario, Canada) in 2011. He is currently working at Online Education College of BLCU, teaching courses like HSK tutoring, Young Learner Chinese, Intermediate Chinese Communication and Elementary Chinese Writing. Houston is fully experienced in teaching Chinese to adults, especially college students and proficient in Chinese grammar and vocabulary teaching, with precise explanations and various drilling methods. Apart from basic teaching contents, he always supplements his lessons with more Chinese language and cultural knowledge. Houston went to various Chinese teaching programs held by Hanban and other institutions. He is officially certified and well-qualified to teach in overseas Confucius Institutes. More importantly, he is always considered to be patient and careful in his classes.
